This paper is an analysis of the major religious themes in Sidney Lumet's "Daniel." It is prt of a larger as that will compare "Daniel" with Lumet's "The Pawnbroker" as well as other American films that deal with the Christian passion story from different religious perspectives. What emerges in both "Daniel" and "The Pawnbroker" is what I believe to be a distinctively American Jewish telling of the story.
